If you make an alias of the trash can, SndControl becomes very confused about if/when it should play the Empty/Full sounds.
This is because the icon of the alias always stays "thin" irrespective of the state of the actual trash can icon itself.
The fix for this situation is relatively straightforward: do a Get Info on the alias and paste a new icon on top of the standard trash icon. So long as this new icon is even slightly different, SndControl will have no problems at all.
For your convenience, I've pasted a slightly modified trash icon into this document's get info box, so you can easily perform the fix. I'm also including a ResEdit document containing the modified icons.
